At Kalmar, the safety of people working with our machines is always at the top of our minds, which is why meeting global safety standards is important to us. The safety standard EN 1175:2020, which sets the electrical and electronic component standards for industrial trucks, has been updated to improve the safety of these machines while in operation, this update is valid from April 2023. All Kalmar counter balanced machines, including reach stackers, empty container handlers and forklifts have been updated to meet this new standard to ensure that working with a Kalmar machine is as safe as it can be.

Kalmar reachstackers support a broad range of industries—from container terminals, intermodal rail hubs and river ports to steel mills, wind-energy facilities, mines, paper mills and recycling plants. Selecting the right reachstacker means matching its lifting capacity, reach, attachment, powertrain and manoeuvrability to the material, operating environment and duty cycle.
The range starts with the Kalmar DRG100–140 Reachstacker for empty and semi-laden containers up to 14 tonnes. Laden-container, intermodal and barge operations can choose between the Kalmar Gloria DRG450, Eco DRG450E and Electric ERG450 Reachstackers, all handling up to 45 tonnes. For industrial materials, capacities extend from the Kalmar Gloria and Eco DRG500–700 Reachstackers at up to 70 tonnes to the Kalmar Super Gloria DRG450–1300 Reachstacker at up to 130 tonnes and the Kalmar–CES Heavy Duty Reachstacker Range at 120–380 tonnes.
Specialist applications are covered by the Kalmar RT250 Rough Terrain Container Handler for mining and remote logistics, the Kalmar–TW RTD17 and RTD32 LogStackers for paper mills and wood yards, and a Kalmar Reachstacker equipped with a Tilting Spreader for containerised bulk materials. For demanding container terminal operations, an optional 50-tonne spreader is also available for the Gloria Reachstacker DRG450, Eco Reachstacker DRG450E and Electric Reachstacker ERG450. In toplift configuration, these reachstackers can stack up to six 9 ft 6 in containers high and four rows deep. The Kalmar Reachstacker for Empty and Semi-Laden Container Handling DRG100–140 handles 10–14 tonnes, stacks up to eight high and three deep, and suits depots, repair workshops and space-constrained yards handling ISO, reefer, tank and flat-rack containers. Choose the DRG100-54S8 reachstacker for eight-high stacking at up to 10 tonnes, or the six-high DRG100-54S6, DRG120-54S6 or DRG140-54S6 reachstacker for capacities of 10, 12 or 14 tonnes. Its 90-degree container rotation also supports operation through narrow lanes and low workshop doors. For laden containers up to 45 tonnes, choose the Kalmar Gloria Reachstacker DRG450 for proven diesel reliability and flexibility, the Kalmar Eco Reachstacker DRG450E for improved fuel efficiency without charging dependency, or the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker ERG450 for zero emissions at source, lower noise and reduced vibration. All three offer toplift configurations capable of stacking up to six high and four deep; selection should reflect the terminal’s duty cycle, fuel costs, emissions targets and—for the electric reachstacker—grid capacity and charging availability.
An optional 50-tonne spreader is available for the Gloria diesel, Eco and ERG450 electric toplift configurations, providing additional flexibility for demanding container-handling applications. The complete machine configuration and rated lifting capacity should be verified for the intended load and operating position.
The Kalmar Gloria Intermodal Reachstacker DRG450C handles laden trailers and loads up to 45 tonnes and can work on the second rail line, while intermodal configurations of the Kalmar Eco Reachstacker DRG420–450E and Kalmar Electric Reachstacker ERG450 provide fuel-efficient diesel and battery-electric alternatives. Buyers should verify track spacing, required rail-line reach, wagon and trailer dimensions, overhead clearances, load capacity at the required outreach and expected moves per hour. The Kalmar Gloria Barge Handler Reachstacker DRG450S is designed for marine terminals, river ports and inland-waterway operations requiring extended reach or lifting below quay level. Designed for barge operations, this reachstacker can lift up to 45 tonnes and features negative lift capability. It maintains a lifting capacity of over 30 tonnes even when reaching the fourth row of containers. Selected Super Gloria configurations, featuring the standard drivetrain and an extended wheelbase of 8.25–9.25 metres.
Reachstacker selection should account for quay height, water-level variation, barge dimensions, required negative lift and container weight at the actual outreach. A standard 45-tonne toplift reachstacker is not automatically suitable for barge handling.
The Kalmar Gloria Reachstacker DRG500–700 and Kalmar Eco Reachstacker DRG500–700E handle industrial loads up to approximately 70 tonnes in steel mills, foundries, pipe mills and heavy-manufacturing plants. The Kalmar Gloria Tool Carrier Reachstacker DRG500–850A offers lifting capacities of up to 85 tonnes with a twistlock and up to 100 tonnes with four lifting hooks. It can be equipped with attachments for handling slabs, plates, billets, pipes, coils, rebars and cast components.
For loads up to 130 tonnes, consider the Kalmar Gloria Lift Hook Reachstacker DRG570–1300Z or Kalmar Super Gloria Reachstacker DRG450–1300. These industrial reachstackers can use hooks, magnets, grippers, slings and tool carriers. Selection should reflect load geometry, centre of gravity, attachment weight and outreach—not load weight alone.
The Kalmar Super Gloria Reachstacker DRG450–1300 handles up to 130 tonnes for wind-turbine factories, offshore supply bases, precast-concrete plants and heavy-construction sites. Typical loads include tower sections, nacelles, blades, offshore pipes, reels, foundations, tunnel sections and girders. Two Super Gloria reachstackers can work in tandem on combined loads exceeding 260 tonnes, subject to engineered lift planning.
For greater capacity, outreach or lift height, the Kalmar–CES Heavy Duty Reachstacker Range 120–380T provides 120–380 tonnes of capacity, approximately 8–11 metres of outreach and 13–18 metres of lift height. Buyers should complete load-centre, attachment, ground-bearing and tandem-lifting assessments.
The Kalmar RT250 Rough Terrain Container Handler is designed for mines, remote construction projects and logistics sites without established infrastructure. It lifts up to 25,454 kg, reaches 6,273 mm and provides a maximum lift height of 10,300 mm.
Four-wheel drive, multiple steering modes and the ability to negotiate a 27% incline while fully loaded support operation on difficult terrain. A folding boom enables transport by road, rail, ship or air without disassembly. Buyers should assess ground strength, slopes, seasonal conditions, transport limits and remote service support.
The Kalmar–TW RTD17 LogStacker and Kalmar–TW RTD32 LogStacker are designed for pulp mills, paper mills, sawmills, timber terminals and high-volume wood yards operating approximately 4,000–7,000 hours annually. Short chassis, large grapples and a hydraulic mild-hybrid system support fast log handling in narrow stockpile lanes.
The RTD17 LogStacker has a standard 5.5 m² grapple, optionally 7.0 m²; the RTD32 LogStacker has a standard 8.5 m² grapple, optionally 9.4 m². Select according to bundle weight, log dimensions, stockpile height and lane width. Confirm the RTD32 lifting capacity in the latest technical data sheet because the supplied source contains inconsistent figures.
A Kalmar Reachstacker equipped with a Tilting Spreader can lift and empty 20-, 30- and 40-foot containers by tilting them up to 55 degrees sideways or lengthwise. Door-holder, hatch-opener and shaker functions help discharge materials affected by compression, moisture or frost.
This specialist reachstacker supports recycling plants, biomass and waste-to-energy facilities, grain terminals, food-processing plants, mines and chemical-handling sites. Typical materials include scrap metal, plastics, wastepaper, wood chips, biomass, grain, sugar and minerals. Buyers should define the material properties, discharge direction, container type, receiving-hopper layout and required dust, spill and contamination controls.
For industrial users prioritising eco-efficiency and environmental compliance, the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker ERG450 provides zero emissions at source, lower noise and vibration, and reduced maintenance needs due to fewer moving parts. Its modular 400–800 kWh battery options allow companies to match battery capacity and charging infrastructure to their duty cycle, while thermal management supports operation in ambient temperatures from –30°C to 50°C. The use of SSAB Green Steel, an emission-reducing counterweight, long-life hydraulic oil and tyre-pressure monitoring further reduces environmental impact.
Where electrification is not yet practical, the Eco Reachstacker DRG420–450E for Container Handling and DRG500–700E for Industrial Handling offer lower fuel consumption and emissions while retaining diesel flexibility for long shifts and variable workloads. Kalmar states that Eco Reachstackers can reduce fuel consumption by up to 40% compared with older machines and up to 25% compared with more recent reachstackers, supported by driver training, MyKalmar INSIGHT and a Fuel Saving Guarantee based on the operation’s agreed drive cycle. Selected HVO-compatible models provide an additional emissions-reduction option.
