Truffer AG extracts high-quality natural gneiss stone in Vals, Switzerland, and transports it to its own factory for processing into decorative stones.
Logistics plays a major role, and efficiency is key.
“We wanted the Ferrari of forklifts and that’s Kalmar. The quality and reliability of the machines and the good service support is vital for us, because the quarry is located high up in the Swiss Alps,” says Pius Truffer, CEO of Truffer AG.
Truffer AG chose the DCF500 because of Kalmar’s 70-year experience in handling heavy loads. To operate in the limited space on site, the truck had to meet various customer-specific specifications, such as machine width and turning radius. The truck has a lift capacity of 50 tons, and the reliable Volvo diesel engine generates 260 kW at 2,200 rpm. Controlling the huge machine is easy thanks to the fully automatic transmission.
Thanks to its advanced electronics, the DCF500 runs on optimum torque at low engine speeds. This reduces wear, fuel consumption, emissions and noise. The machine is also known for its strength and durability. Pius Truffer also appreciates the value of the machine as a morale booster. “A machine like this is a motivating factor for our employees. It is a rewarding feeling to drive the biggest forklift in Switzerland
