The solution Material handling

Name: Baltic Sea Gateway AB (BSG)

Location: Gävle, Sweden

Throughput: 1.4 million tons per year

Supported fleet: Four DCF80-6 with clamp, two DCG150-12,
other forklift trucks and machines

Kalmar forklifts fit the bill

BSG wanted forklift trucks with good visibility, good ergonomics and driver comfort. Meeting emission regulations was also a decisive factor. Kalmar machines met all the requirements.

The challenge

Baltic Sea Gateway AB (BSG), a subsidiary
of Gävle Hamn AB, handles cargo at the
Port of Gävle, Sweden. It operates in both
the Granudden and Fredriksskans terminals.
BSG handles paper rolls from the nearby
papermills BillerudKorsnäs and Swedpaper
as well as various kinds of container goods
and dry bulk. It also manages the intermodal
terminal in Granudden.
BSG was looking for forklifts with good
visibility in all directions, good ergonomics
and driver comfort with a turnable seat.
Meeting emission regulations was also a
decisive factor.

The solution

Kalmar’s DCG150-12 and DCF80-6 forklift
trucks met all the requirements.
The DCG150-12, which operates in
Fredriksskans, is equipped with both bale
clamp and forks. It handles pulp bales,
unloading them from ships to storage to
trucks for land transport.
The DCF80-6 operates in Granudden,
loading paper rolls from storage to train,
trucks and containers.

The results

BSG’s Operating Manager Bato Hibner
says that the forklifts’ ergonomics
fulfilled all expectations. “The turnable
seats also work very well and we were
able to put the forklifts into service
without any problems,” Hibner says.
