Kalmar's Eco Reachstackers and Empty Container Handlers to help Ter Haak Group Amsterdam improve the sustainability of its operations

2019 Trade press

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 20 MARCH 2019 AT 1 PM (EET)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, is helping the Dutch company Ter Haak Group to improve the sustainability of its operations with the delivery of three Kalmar Eco Reachstackers, one Kalmar Gloria Reachstacker and three Empty Container Handlers to its Container Stevedoring IJmuiden (CSY) - Haringhaven and Container Service Amsterdam (CSA)  terminals. All machines are covered with a Kalmar Care service contract. The order was booked in Cargotec's Q4 2018 order intake and the delivery took place in February 2019.

Sustainability is high on Ter Haak Group's agenda, and the company has created  the largest sunroof in Amsterdam Port in order to generate the energy consumed at the Group's USA Terminal and surrounding companies. The Group's USA deep-sea terminal was established more than 24 years ago and handles a wide variety of cargo, mainly containers, ConRo and RoRo vessels and breakbulk. The terminal has received three Kalmar Empty Container Handlers and three Kalmar Eco Reachstackers including a full service contract to increase its capacity and eco-efficiency.

For CSY Haringhaven Ter Haak Group Kalmar has delivered a specially adapted Kalmar Gloria reachstacker for loading and unloading cargo from barges, The machine is equipped with a four-deep reach that eliminates the need for the time consuming job of turning the vessel for reaching the last row of cargo to be unloaded.

Richard Ter Haak, CEO, Ter Haak Group: "Continuously improving the eco-efficiency of our operations through investment in modern, fuel-efficient equipment is a major focus for us. In this regard, the solutions offered by Kalmar matched our needs perfectly. We have been working with Kalmar equipment for several years and appreciate its high quality and reliability."

Kalmar Eco Reachstacker is a prime example of Kalmar's commitment to develop industry shaping solutions to minimise the environmental impact of cargo handling. The solution is guaranteed to use significantly less fuel than other reachstackers. In comparison to older machines, the Kalmar Eco Reachstacker can reduce fuel consumption by up to 40%, and by up to 25% compared to more recent machines, cutting fuel costs and emissions while matching the productivity levels of machines with much larger engines.
