Kalmar emulation tools

Informed decisions

Plan your terminal development and prepare for changes by first implementing them with emulation. This allows you to measure performance and compare it to your terminal's current operations. You can modify the terminal layout or adjust Container Handling Equipment (CHE) by adding or removing units. With the Kalmar Scenario Modeller, creating new scenarios is straightforward, enabling you to see how your terminal would perform under evolving requirements and with various CHE types, such as STS, AutoStrad, AutoRTG, ASC, AutoTT, and AGV.

Optimize your operations

Once the terminal is at steady operation phase fine-tune parameters, for example, to find the optimal balance between Landside and Waterside operations or explore different charging schedules for battery-electric CHE. Emulation tools can also be used for training to ensure operators know how to act in different operational scenarios. In emulation, it is possible to recreate the same scenario repeatedly and train operators without interrupting production or moving physical boxes.

Key benefits of Kalmar emulation tools

  • Plan upcoming changes in terminal layout, expansions, or project phases. Verify civil design changes before breaking ground.
  • Test the operative software stack and configuration in a virtual environment before promoting updates to production.
  • Experiment with and fine-tune parameters for different operational scenarios in truly repeatable circumstances.
  • Create realistic training scenarios without the need for physical boxes or equipment.

Kalmar emulation tools include

  • Full Kalmar One software suite, as used in production.
  • Scenario Modeller that manages the scenarios and initializes the environment, including TOS and third-party systems. If TOS is not included in the environment, Scenario Modeller acts as a TOS simulator by managing work queues, vessels and container inventory.
  • GOS simulator that implements in- and out-gates and truck queues in the terminal. In an integrated environment, the GOS simulator integrates with TOS.
  • CHE simulators for QC, AutoStrad, AutoRTG, ASC, AGV and AutoTT. You can also modify CHE parameters, such as max velocity, acceleration/deceleration, and charging power, to accurately model their behavior.
  • Reporting tools to automatically generate extensive performance report for each emulation run.

Charging chart from top to down:

  • Average SOC (state of charge) of the whole AutoStrad fleet
  • Charging events in the terminal
  • Utilization % of the FastCharge stations in the terminal
